Mince Patties

Ingredients

  • 1lb (500g) Mincemeat

  • 1 onion

  • 3 cloves Garlic

  • 1 tsp Tomato puree

  • Thyme

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 500g Plain flour

  • 250g Margarine

  • 1 egg (beaten)

Preparation

Filling

  1. Fry the onion and garlic until brown

  2. Add mince and stir until it's sealed

  3. Add salt and pepper and some thyme(thinly sprinkle)

  4. Stir and add tomato puree

  5. Put some water(cover the mince)

  6. Cook for 1/2 an hour(or until mince dries)

  7. Take all the fat out and leave it to cool


Pastry

  1. To make the pastry, mix Flour and salt then add margarine and mix with fingers till it becomes like breadcrumbs

  2. Add some water bit by bit and bring it together and make pastry

  3. When pastry is made wrap it with some cling film and put it in the fridge until ready to make mince patties

(You can use a pre-made shortcrust pastry instead)


Patties

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees/Gas mark 4

  2. Roll 1/2 the pastry - it should be 2-3 mm thin

  3. Cut ~4 1/2 inch circles with little bowl

  4. Put them in the pie dish(Greased and flour)

  5. Roll other 1/2 pastry and cut circles for the tops

  6. Put 1 tblsp mince in each pie

  7. Rub some water or beaten egg on edge of the pies

  8. Put other 8 pastries top of the pies and seal

  9. Scratch edge of the pies with the fork and make some hole in the middle

  10. Brush some beaten Egg on top of the pies

  11. Cook them in preheated oven for half an hour
