Sambar chicken curry

Ingredients

  • 1 Chicken

  • 250g yellow split peas

  • 1 large Onion

  • 3 cloves Garlic (chopped)

  • 1/2 tsp Ginger paste

  • 3 tsp Dhaniya (coriander) powder

  • 1 1/2 tsp Jeera (cumin) powder

  • 1 1/2 tsp Haldi (turmeric) powder

  • 1/4 tsp Chilli powder

  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala

  • 4 tomatoes (cut into 5 pieces)

  • 2 tsp Methi (fenugreek) leaves

  • 3 tsp salt

Preparation

  1. Soak the yellow split peas and boil it water. Once scum forms, take it out then add turmeric and chilli powder. Boil till the split peas are soft and crumbles when pressed between the fingers. 

  2. Fry onions and garlic till gold

  3. Add all spices (except methi) and salt then stir and add a little water

  4. Cook until the chicken seals

  5. Add enough water to cover the chicken and simmer for 40 minutes

  6. Drain the yellow split peas and add it to the curry

  7. Add the tomatoes and methi

  8. Top up water to cover chicken if needed and check salt

  9. Simmer for 10 minutes


Serve with rice
